Welcome to Cardiff! You have joined us in the city centre, the capital city of Wales and the epicentre of history, culture and the social hub of Wales.

Whilst you’re in Cardiff, the Castle is an absolute must-visit location. Even if it’s not on your agenda, it’s hard to miss. In the heart of the city the Castle stands proudly representing Cardiff’s history. Over 2000 years old, the castle was initially built as a Roman fort and has since been used as a medieval stronghold and a royal residency in the Victorian period. Cardiff Castle has seen Wales through all of its transformations and watched it flourish into the beautiful city it is today.

Now, the castle is used for visitors' pleasure, offering a beautiful green space and plenty of architecture to admire.

Concerts at the Castle

This summer, the Castle is hosting weekly concerts within the Castle grounds with Depot Live! These gigs make for great weekend plans with big names such as The Streets, The Sex Pistols and the Wombats coming up soon.

Portugal and Wales

Cardiff offers a rich cultural history for all backgrounds. Portugal and Cardiff have very interesting historical ties. During the Age of Discovery, when Portugal ventured across the Atlantic Ocean, Wales was establishing its own centres of trade in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea ports. In the 19th century, Cardiff became one of the busiest coal-exports in the world and Portugal became a frequent visitor. Later on, Portuguese sailors settled in Wales and shared their cultures and, of course, Pasteis de Nata.

These settlements all contributed towards the vibrant and inclusive Cardiff that we know today. So when you think about Cardiff’s history, we must also consider the different cultures that all played their role in its development.

It makes perfect sense for us to be located right outside the Castle. We are the perfect celebration of two cultures coming together to build a nation.
