Cardiff has welcomed cultural practices from all over the world into the heart of Wales including our Portuguese Bakery that serves traditional Portuguese dishes and freshly bakes Pasteis de Nata right outside the iconic Cardiff Castle.

Of course, the unmissable Portuguese experience in Cardiff is Nata & Co. Step through our doors into a beautifully Portuguese-decorated haven of culture.

On a sunny day, you can sip your iced drinks and nibble at a Nata whilst taking in the stunning views of Cardiff Castle. If you close your eyes and listen to the soft melodies of Portuguese music floating around from inside, you could be sat in the streets of Lisbon catching a tan and taking in the culture.

Though we've been lucky this summer, it's not always as sunny as Lisbon in Cardiff. So if it's chilly, join us inside for a coffee. Or take your caffeine how the Portuguese do and order an espresso with your Pastel de Nata. The sweetness and bitterness create the perfect balance for an early morning start or an afternoon pick-me-up.

Fabulous Welsh Cakes are our neighbours at Nata & Co, Cardiff. Our beautiful bakeries stand side by side on Castle Street proudly sharing our cultures with Cardiff.

You simply cannot visit Cardiff without trying a Welsh Cake before you leave. Or maybe you're already a loyal Welsh cake muncher - we know we are!

Fabulous Welsh Cakes also have a lovely view of Cardiff Castle which makes perfect sense for their café - they are the perfect stop-off after enjoying an afternoon exploring the Castle walls.

Why not grab a Welsh cake and then pop next door to Nata & Co to try Portugal's infamous sweet treat? Compare the two flavours and ask yourself about what it tells you about each culture.

The Pastel de Nata was created by monks in Belem who used their leftover egg yolks to create sweet treats for the whole monastery and later all of Portugal to enjoy. The Age of Discovery sent the Pastel de Nata on a worldwide journey leading the custard tart to end up over the water here, in Cardiff at Nata & Co.

The Welsh cake was created centuries ago in a time before ovens were a common possession. They were baked over a direct fire on a bakestone or a griddle. They acted as the perfect, inexpensive snack for the working family. A bite sized treat made of flour, butter, sugar and dried fruit.

Isn't it interesting how the simple recipes of Pastel de Nata and Welsh Cakes have become the iconic sweet treat staples for Portugal and Wales!
